Fencing is a Healthy Way to Relieve Stress
Today’s children face more pressure than many of us did at their age, and they need healthy outlets to manage it. Fencing is one of the best. For one, it provides sustained, vigorous exercise — and physical activity has been shown again and again to reduce stress and improve sleep, which in turn supports nearly every aspect of a child’s mental and physical health. Beyond the workout, fencing is a martial art, so children also gain the focus and discipline of the sport along with the satisfying release of testing themselves against an opponent.
Fencing Can Open Doors to College
Many top universities — including Ivy League schools — maintain competitive fencing programs and are always on the lookout for promising talent. Although fencing doesn’t get the television coverage of basketball, football, or soccer, it carries real prestige in academic circles, and American schools value being able to compete at the national and international level. A child who starts early and develops into a strong, dedicated student-athlete can use the sport as one more way to stand out in the college admissions process.

Few activities let kids safely learn the art of the blade — and fewer still let them put those skills to the test against a real opponent.
